Creating WBMP images?

I'm using php4.0.2 compiled with libgd1.8.3 running on a linux box,
when trying to use the command imagewbmp I get an unknown data type from the apache server and when running the same php script from the command
line I get segmentation fault while it does not happen when using imagepng or imagejpg.
Is that a known bug?
Is there a workaround?
