As you say I doubt many people use it and I guess it is activated by default for historical reasons. What are the problems you are having with it? On what platform? Andi At 17:13 14/09/00 +0300, Jani Taskinen wrote:
I tried to fix those compile problems people have had with this. No luck. Then I made a radical move: rm -rf ext/db And did a buildconf/rebuild. Voilá! Everything works like charm. So is that extension really needed? If you want to have for example gdbm support, you'll do --with-gdbm=/path which then uses ext/dba. Question: Why does this ext/db even exist? AND WHY is it enabled for everybody ?? There isn't --without-db ..I guess that extension is relic from php3 ? Let's just nuke that shit. =) (I'll start insulting people if not..=) And don't start telling me anything about 'backwards compatibility'. If someone upgrades some software it is his/hers responsibility to READ e.g. Changelog or NEWS files to see if something has changed from previous version. It's starting to annoy (not just me I assume) when something is to be changed someone steps out of his closet and starts yelling about 'backwards compatibility'. Sometimes there just have to be made some radical decisions. And if it breaks someone's scripts: SO WHAT? It's their fault if they hadn't read what had changed _before_ upgrading! --Jani -- PHP Development Mailing List <http://www.php.net/> To unsubscribe, e-mail: php-dev-unsubscribe@lists.php.net For additional commands, e-mail: php-dev-help@lists.php.net To contact the list administrators, e-mail: php-list-admin@lists.php.net
