CURL is supported but when you compile PHP, CURL support is not automatically turned on, therefore you need to configure PHP --with-curl everytime you install PHP. Sort of like everytime you configure and install the curl package if you want SSL support included you need to configure and install curl --with-ssl... -Sterling
