mod_php4 & mod_perl problem, and I *DID* RTFM.

First off, I know I can't use PHP4's built-in MySQL support with mod_perl. I'm not trying to. I'm having a problem getting mod_perl and mod_php4 to run together. Only by rebooting the box will Apache start with both mod_perl & mod_php4 enabled. To get both modules to work otherwise, I have to comment out mod_perl, do apachectl start with just mod_php4, uncomment mod_perl, then do apachectl restart. Once they're both enabled and Apache is running, I can't do apachectl restart again without having to go through the same comment out/uncomment ritual. I can't do apachectl stop then apachectl start. Apache will run OK with either mod_perl or mod_php4 enabled, but not with both enabled at the same time. When Apache won't start, there's no error in error_log. apachectl reports that httpd has started. If I do a ps -A fast enough, I can see one httpd process start then immediately quit. I tried reinstalling everything from fresh tarfiles and still ran into the same problem. I'm running RedHat 6.2, 2.2.16 kernel from RH, egcs-2.91.66, AMD K-6 300MHz, recently upgraded from a 200MHz Winchip. I first noticed this problem after upgrading the CPU, which is why I just recompiled everything. These are the versions I installed. I tried two ways, installing mod_perl first and installing php first. apache_1.3.12 (cpan> install Bundle::Apache) mod_perl-1.24 php-4.0.2 ZendOptimizer-0.99-php4.0.2-Linux-glibc2.1 The problem started before installing mod_dav and mod_random.
