Stupid me, very stupid me :(
I finally found the real cause for the crashes on my system under ceratin
circumstances: I still had the ZendOptimizer for PHP 4.0.2 enabled in
php.ini, after disabling the problems are gone.
It had nothing to do with any recent patch.
