Actually, I also had too many \'s.
The correct usage (for 3.0.x) is:
eregi("onlyuser\\[(.*)\\]",$inside, $regs)
[ NOTE: While the match appears to work w/o the 2nd \, there is a
warning about bad escape seq.]
And for 4.0.x:
eregi("onlyuser\[(.*)\]",$inside, $regs)
Which was what Lars said originally. ;)
