Hi Axl, I use the OCI functions all the time so firstly it's unlikely to be a PHP issue as such. I guess the first quest is do you still have a user called scott and a password of tiger? The fact it's intermittent doesn't help. It sounds like the PHP server is having a problem with the tnsnames.ora entry. If you use the command oerr (Find Oracle Error) to see what your error is you get the following: [bash]# oerr ora 24327 24327, 00000, "need explicit attach before authenticating a user" // *Cause: A server context must be initialised before creating a session. // *Action: Create and initialize a server handle. This would suggest your SID (usually defined by ORACLE_SID environment variable, or the third parameter of the OCILogon function) is not correct. However, it could be a million other things such as the OS your using, what "user" is running the PHP service or daemon, etc.) First place I would check is your tnsnames.ora and your SID settings. Second, what version of the client are you using? I would download 8.1.6 from Oracle? I have copy a sample code from the PHP manual using OCI and create the tables in my Oracle8i which are needed when running the program. The program can run properly sometimes, and I also get the error ORA-24327 sometimes. I hope someone can help me the settle it down. Following is the code: <?php 3 /*
