PHP and imsp/acap

The php v3.x had support for imsp but the configure option has been
removed from php4.x is there a reason for this?
Background:
Cyrus has provided a php3.x and apache to work with it's 'silkymail' web
email client (supporting imsp) but this boxed solution is not suitable
if you wanted to upgrade php or apache. So I looked at using php4.x but
found the --with-imsp option was removed from the ./configure file with
no mention in the 4.0 doco. Now I'm trying to see what's happened...
