Yes, that is quite possible, depending on how the dynamic
linker works.
PHP 4's --enable-versioning does not use versioning, it
simply exports only a couple of symbols which won't conflict
with PHP 3. So you'd probably see the same effect, if you
would have compiled PHP 4 only with --enable-versioning.
