Try adding this to your configure line for PHP:
--enable-sigchild

When we migrated from MySql to Oracle8i, the load time became 6-7 times slower.
We were able to isolate the problem and found out that it's the php-oracle rpm that generates
"run-away" processes. Such processes result to 100% CPU utilization on the webserver.
We've been looking for the right rpm. Hope you guys could help.
