compile error with apache

I was able to make/install php into apache as a static module, but when I tried to make apache, I received these unresolved: Unresolved: sapi_globals_id ts_resource __pthread_mutex_init __pthread_mutex_destroy __pthread_mutex_lock __pthread_mutex_unlock It looks like this has to do with TSRM, but I'm not sure. I may have done something wrong in the configure/make of php4, but I'm not sure. Any help would be appreciated.
