I sorted it out and there is no way that there a parameter added to change the behaviour from
MM/DD/YY to DD/MM/YY. However, you still can USE the UNIXTIME() function of MySQL.

I haven't looked into this much, but it appears that the substr() function only accepts
American MM/DD/YYYY, it is possible that this is set up when you install (I didn't install it)
but it would be nice if you could add a switch so that substr() accepts the European DD/MM/YYYY
format.
