Although I'm new to this list, I've been using e-mail for quite a while, and
I agree that accounts from Hotmail, Netzero, Yahoo, etc. should be regarded
with some degree of suspicion. Hotmail (and Yahoo, etc.) is not *just* for
anonymity, but it often *is* used for anonymity. I've known people to
create a Hotmail account only to send a single, anonymous e-mail.
Personally, my use for Yahoo mail is to have a valid address when
subscribing to services online that I expect to get spam from. Anything else
(personal, business related, whatever) goes to this account; my inbox is
organized by filtering rules.
Just my thoughts on the matter.

Ouch. I've been denied various services or access in various places before
because I used a hotmail account. And this sucks. Hotmail is not just for
anonymity - I prefer to split the email traffic I receive into different
accounts, so I do not clog my main mailboxes. As such, I have several
anonymous accounts, amond them vksphp@hotmail.com to subscribe to php-doc,
phpdevel@echospace.com to subscribe to this list and, I believe this is the
address I supplied when I got my CVS access. And, guess what? Although I
messed up a few things, I haven't done anything hideously bad yet. This
proposal will effectively kill effort coming from people like me.
