please check your error_reporting settings in php.ini
i'm pretty sure you have something like
error_reporting=7 or error_reporting=15 in there
theese were valid settings in php3 but php4 has some
additional error states so you should use the symbolic
E_* constants instead
error_reporting=E_ALL or error_reporting=E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE
are the equivalents to the values 15 or 7 in php3

When you mistype reset(X) instead of reset($X) script
dies [probably at parse state] without any diag/output.
When you're mistyping in complex script it's hard to
understand where's error.
Type foo.php and see results
<?
reset(X);
die("foo");
?>
