We know that mysql_free_results and such free memory back to the apache
child; but not back to the operating system.
We have some queries which get somewhat rarely executed but which may
allocate 50MB to hold the results.
It is good in a case like this to be able to request that the current
process terminate immediatly after serving the request instead of hanging
around for 30 or so more requests along with various other siblings wasting
a few hundred MB of memory.
This patch to php_apache.c exposes the apache function ap_child_terminate
which actually set keepalive for the child to 0 and requests_this_child and
ap_max_requestw_per_child both to 1 so the child will terminate "normally".
It seems to work for me; Its a very SMALL patch, can we add it to the core
distribution before the next release?
it adds the php function: apache_child_terminate();
Thanks
Sam.
