Do a uname -a
On my box here that is:
Linux jetpen 2.1.114 #4 SMP Thu Aug 6 22:25:25 EDT 1998 i686 unknown
with current libs (ie. libc6) it works fine. No guarantees for 2.0.x
systems. You will probably have to build from source then.
