Someone might find this interesting. Also see the next post I forward
which was my attempt to recreate this test on Linux...

Subject: [PHP-DEV] WWW BENCHMARKS for Hello World
## IIS ## APACHE ## CGI ## EMBPERL ## ISAPI ## VBSCRIPT ## PERLSCRIPT ##
ASP ## PERLEX ## CHILIASP ##
WWW BENCHMARKS:
Matt & I had been crunching some numbers before that was sessions
oriented, but I wanted to see what I could get for a raw
mod_perl hello world program and got 50.72 requests/sec on
my box. I also did some other testing... ;)
Here's a round-up of some testing done:
Environment Hits/s OS Chip Sessions
----------- ------ -- ---- --------
iis/static html 330.01 WinNT PII 300 no
apache/static html 74.08 WinNT PII 300 no
iis/perlex cgi 64.87 WinNT PII 300 no
iis/perl isapi raw-cgi 59.78 WinNT PII 300 no
apache/chiliasp vbscript 56.93 WinNT PII 300 yes
apache/mod_perl 50.72 WinNT PII 300 no
apache/mod_perl/cgi (registry) 40.17 WinNT PII 300 no
apache/mod_perl/asp 27.76 WinNT PII 300 no
apache/mod_perl/embperl 27.11 WinNT PII 300 no
iis/perl raw-cgi 16.35 WinNT PII 300 no
apache/mod_perl/asp 15.75 WinNT PII 300 yes
iis/asp perlscript 9.54 WinNT PII 300 both
iis/asp vbscript 9.51 WinNT PII 300 both
iis/perl cgi 3.82 WinNT PII 300 no
iis/perl isasp cgi 2.96 WinNT PII 300 no
* All IIS versions 4.0
# All Apache versions 1.3.3; all handlers were configures via the
<Files>
config option in a virtual server, which is slower than using other
methods,
that one might use on a production box.
Please note that all of these tests were done with the client
and server on the same machine with the Socrates program found at
http://www.morphtech.com/. Each of the tests were run for
roughly
30 seconds.
Matthew Sergeant started this to test the speed of a www
application environment. His thought was that a simple "Hello World"
would test for the raw speed of those environments.
The following code was used for the "Hello World". For embeded
environments, there is one script line, and one static line. For
pure script environments, there are two script lines to emulate
what would be an easy translation to the embeded environment.
## mod_perl program
package Apache::bench;
sub handler {
my($r) = shift;
$r->content_type('text/html');
$r->send_http_header();
$r->print('Hello ');
$r->print('World');
200;
}
## mod_perl/cgi program; iis/perl cgi; iis/perl isapi cgi
use CGI;
my $cgi = CGI->new();
print $cgi->header();
print "Hello ";
print "World";
## mod_perl/asp program as well; iis/perlscript
<%@LANGUAGE=PerlScript%>
<%
$Response->Write("Hello ");
%>
World
## iis/vbscript; apache/chiliasp vbscript
<%@LANGUAGE=VBScript%>
<%
Response.Write("Hello ")
%>
World
## mod_perl/embperl
[- print OUT "Hello "; -]
World
## iis/perl raw cgi script; iis/perl isapi raw cgi
## does not "use CGI" which can kill normal cgi apps that don't
## cache module loading the way mod_perl and perlex do.
print "HTTP/1.1 200 OK\n";
print "Content-Type: text/html\n\n";
print "Hello ";
print "World";
## Static Html :)
Hello World
Please note that this was not meant as a promo for either PerlEx or
ChiliASP, but both did do quite well, and is something to consider
for those who need a little extra juice out of their www servers.
