D'oh! Well, that's good that I asked you guys before getting my head too
deap into I18N work.
After discussing with other developers, I think we will still go ahead and
try to merge at least the current Japanese patch with possible
accommadation of other multi-byte charactors. This way we will have a
stable PHP3 with Japanese support for a while. We will not thrash the core
engine in depth or try something innovative for now. I think we will
reserve that energey for PHP4. Heck, we might not even do that if PHP4
doesn't play with the 8th bit. I think PHP3 as is, passes 8bit charactor
okay, so as long as that's promised, our work is only involved with
conversions of various charactor codes. Until PHP4 is out, we will most
likely spend some time to refine the multibyte regex library or other
charactor conversion functions.
If possible, we would like to see the engine layout when it's finalized.
That way, we would have a head start on that. If not, well, we will just
wait. :)
