From a look at the OCI library headerfiles it doesn't seem to be possible to tell the
difference.

Section 2 of the Oracle 8i SQL Reference document specifies 4 character datatypes: CHAR, NCHAR,
NVARCHAR2, and VARCHAR2. However, OCIColumnType() will only return CHAR, CHAR, VARCHAR and VARCHAR,
respectively.
