possible --extension-dir directive?

Has there ever been any thought about an extension-dir directive. I don't know
what everyone else thinks, but I personally get tired of
/usr/local/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-whatever-zendapinum.
I think just having an option to force them in /usr/local/lib/php/extensions would be great.
I am not familiar of an instance where I have needed multiple extensions per version and type of
compile I have performed
