Hi
Last month, I mentioned about adding multi-byte support to PHP3. Well, I'm
pretty much done. (It's more like cleaned up patches that we already have
with few additions which makes it more useable for many people) Although
PHP4 is coming out pretty soon, I still wanted to have stable Japanese
support for PHP3, so I just went ahead and got most of them done now. I
hope to have it beta tested by few people then release it to the public
very soon. Is it okay to release it as separate Japanese version? (at
least for PHP3)
Now, I'm in middle of considering what to do after that. As Zeev
mentioned, PHP4 will be out in mid 1999, that means, we (Japanese
developers) should put more effort on more general i18n
(internationalization) on PHP4 then on PHP3. So, how's the roadmap look
like now? Is PHP3 development pretty much frozen now except for bug fixes?
About when can I see the engine layout for PHP4? I truely belive i18n is
very important part of any software and I would love to contribute as much
effort as possible. But, without any insights on future, I can't make up
solid decision yet. At the sametime, knowing where it's going, I can make
the current Japanese support much better for the future. Can anyone give
me some ideas on this?
Thanks in advance, and thanks for all the great works!
Hiro
