Example #1 has a coupla problems:
printf("Can't select orders : %s\n<br>%s<br>\n", ifx_error();
ifx_errormsg();
should be:
printf("Can't select orders : %s\n<br>%s<br>\n", ifx_error(),
ifx_errormsg() );
and
ifx_htmltbl_result($res_id, "border=\"1\");
should be
ifx_htmltbl_result($res_id, "border=\"1\"");
