For instance, will PHP warnings be > buffered if buffering is enabled? Everything is buffered, and is done at a very low level of PHP (in fact, it belongs in a layer that connects PHP and the Web server). There are no special cases, and I don't intend to add any. This functionality wasn't added to make filters possible within PHP, and there's no intention to change it to be one. It was meant mostly so that people can write code more loosely, including header() and setcookie() calls after output is supposedly generated, without worrying about the headers being sent prematurely. The fact you can obtain the buffer and clear it without sending it was added just because it's useful, easy to implement and arrives at no cost - not because we had a 'strategic decision' to added filter/layering support into PHP. > BTW, do you have a more clear idea of PHP 4/Zend availability dates in > alpha, beta, final release phases? An initial beta of Zend, combined with an alpha of PHP 4.0 has been released to the core/major developers of PHP about two months ago. Since then PHP 4.0 advanced significantly and Zend has been mostly stabalized, which seem to put PHP 4.0 in beta quality. I believe we'd have a public beta release of PHP 4.0 within less than two months (stress on 'believe', not guarentee), as all major parts of it have been implemented. The final release date depends only on the stability of the code and the feedback we get from users.
