I found the error (plainly a typo) in fopen-wrappers.c and have committed the
fix to the CVS :
if (SOCK_FGETC(*socketd) == SOCK_RECV_ERROR) {
should have been
if ((buf[0] = SOCK_FGETC(*socketd)) == SOCK_RECV_ERROR) {
It seems to work for me.
