socket problems

The socket code bugs out on me sometimes. What happens is that feof()
returns 1, and fread() returns an empty string after the first chunk has
been read. I use 1460 byte blocks when reading, and the data stops after
exactly 1460 bytes, but there is more on the socket.
I am currently not able to reproduce it in a predictable manner, but I
will keep testing.
