PHP Bug Type: Compile Failure
Bug description: configure doesn't check for header files
This isn't as much a bug as a request for more thorough autoconf scripts. Lately, it seems that
RedHat and other vendors are splitting library packages into "normal use" and
"development." An example is the freetype library, which on RedHat 6.0 comes in two parts,
freetype.* and freetype-devel.*. This obviously presents a problem when one tries to compile php3,
and the autoconf script only looks for the library itself. When gdttf.c contains #include
<freetype.h> it will fail. Is this something you people would remedy, or is the policy to
leave it to the user?
