This is not functionality that belongs in PHP, but in the library that PHP uses, GD. GD already
supports this, if you set ImageInterlace on the image. However this is not in the PHP documentation
yet, where it should be added.

Hi,
I checked the online manual and searched the mailing-lists and docu again, but did not find a way
how to make
progressive jpgs with imagejpeg() (which you mostly would have to have on websites).
Please accept this as feature request, if it is not in php yet and in reasonable time to solve.
