correction: it seams that using the 'string' from stdlib makes the difference. If I: #include <string> using namespace std; ... it doesnt work - but only if I *use* the string class.... strange. anyone got any Idea why?Possibly because you're not linking PHP with the C++ library? If you're using plain C++ you don't need to but if you're using C++ library functions including stuff from namespace std I think you're supposed to link with it. A good idea would also to do an "nm" on your extension and see if it has C++ stuff. Any function which is mangled weirdly is C++. Andi
