Well, not that I would speak for the core team, but developers
should not be stopped by some background processes. So, I would
not mind to have a faster box and running these processes at nice
level 20.

xinetd compiles out of the box and stops various DoS attacks. You
should really consider it. It even has a converter for inetd.conf
=> xinetd.conf, so switching should be possible within minutes.
