this is possible using
session_set_save_handler(array('class'=>'method'),...);
or do I misunderstand the problem here?

It would be nice (for encapsulation purposes) to allow user-defined
session handlers to be implemented as class methods, either through the
established array($this, "foo") syntax or via a session_set_object()
function.
