Sorry for the late answer.
I thought of merging the two when I
started to implment the cpdf functions. A that time I wasn't sure
how different the two approaches are and decided to implement them
independently. I'm not sure if this was a good decission, but it
was much easier. The discussion is similar to the why we have several
sets of function for all the different databases.
Anyway, in the mean time I will keep them separate and try to make the
two as similar as possible and merge some day.
