This code
$a = "/74.html";
$url = $a;
echo $url, "<BR>";
echo basename($url, ".html"), "<BR>";
echo "$a<BR>$url<BR>";
corrupts $a and $url both. Compare it with:
$a = "/74.html";
$url = $a;
echo $url, "<BR>";
echo basename("$url", ".html"), "<BR>";
echo "$a<BR>$url<BR>";
