Yes, you're correct. It was necessary to introduce small changes in order to
get it working in such a way so that it's compatible with Perl. I started a
dialog about this with PCRE author and he modified PCRE in version 2.06 to do
what we needed it to do. However, I have not made PHP work with PCRE 2.06
yet. This is for the future.
