php4 Zend2 compile problem

Hi,
just did:
cvs co php4
cvs co ZendEngine2 and replaced with Zend
./buildconf
./configure --with-pgsql=shared,/usr --with-mysql=shared,/usr
--enable-cli --with-config-file-path=/etc/php5/cgi --disable-xml
and then make fails with:
/usr/local/php_cvs/php4/Zend/zend_mm.c:253: undefined reference to `max'
after adding
#ifndef max
#define max(a,b) ((a)>(b) ? (a) : (b))
#endif
into zend_mm.h everything goes fine.
any ideas?
