This reminds me: don't we want to remove those code elements:
#ifdef HAVE_WHATEVER_GD_FEATURE
doit
#else
php_error(E_WARNIGN, "not supported in this buil"
#endif
so finally "function_exists" makes sense here. I'ld like to
see this happening before 4.3 ....
reasonable or not? Maybe I miss something ...
