It will disable support for the imagecreatefromgif and imagegif
functions. If someone wants to add support for imagecreatefrompng and
imagepng functions, they can go ahead. We should probably make
configure spit out a big warning when gd1.6 is being used.
Hopefully this will motivate someone to write a nice small graphics
library that allows different formats to easily plug in for reading
and writing.
It's not like the gd library does anything especially clever.
