Doh!
Most definitely lost - I've had a *very* busy last 6-months, and I get
a lot of PHP mail - in particularly busy spells, I would just delete
the contents of various php mailboxes (when they reached the 1000 unread
messages mark).
I do try to keep tabs on patches, and recently revised my mail system
to help separate the smog from the real mail.
