Yes, there are a series of functions which need to handle unsigned
values. The other options (1,2 and 4) would involve adding a
convert_to_unsigned_long function, which would still use the long data
member to store the value. The php functions that choose to handle
unsigned values would then have to call the unsigned convert function
and then cast the value to an unsigned type.
