If autoconf et al work under cygwin, it would be interesting to try making it build on Windows.Yeah, MSVC is makefile-friendly (the Visual Studio environment is a thick wrapper around a compiler/make mechanism that's very much like what we're used to from UNIX). It's even possible to tell MSVC that version.h is a file that's generated from configure.in.in and tell it how to generate it; The problem is that in the standard Win32 environment, I doubt we have tools powerful enough to be able to extract the version number from that file...
