i have a long-running script that hits against an Exchange LDAP server and a
database...
when it runs, the apache process consumes an enormous amount of memory (as
much as 37MB!).
output from top:
12904 httpd 11 0 38076 37M 1600 S 0 31.9 14.8 0:16 httpd
my question: is there any way to "free" some memory while PHP is running? it
appears
that every variable I use stays in scope in some way, and unset doesn't
appear to be
freeing anything - just clearing it out.
the other considerations are LDAP, and apache.
part of the problem is that apache is hanging on to that memory after I use
it. so, if a couple different apache children run this script, then I have a
lot of memory just hanging around doing nothing.
any ideas?
