I've set up an NNTP server on news.php.net (another name for the box
that VA Linux donated which is also known as va.php.net). Right now it
only has a couple of newsgroups, but I've created php.dev and set it up
so it should gateway to/from the php-dev@lists.php.net list. (This is
done by setting the moderator address for the newsgroup to the mailing
list address, which has worked in my testing, but may not be the best
way to do things.)
I also imported all of the messages to php-dev since August 1998, so
there's a nice 9000+ messages in the newsgroup already. It's also set
up to not expire articles, so this kind of doubles as a mailing list
archive. (Maybe somebody will be moved to write a nice PHP interface
to it some day.)
Anyways, if people could bang on this a bit, I'll work on setting up
the other mailing lists with groups on this server if it seems to
work for other people. (Oh, if you just want to run tests, use the
php.test newsgroup, which is gatewayed to php-test@lists.php.net.)
(Does INN really create spools with zillions of files per directory?
That seems rather silly considering how much the performance of large
directories sucks on most systems.)
Since this is being posted via the news server, if this makes it to
the list, then at least that much works. :)
