Edit report at https://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=64791&edit=1 ID: 64791 Updated by: daverandom@php.net Reported by: nic at onlight dot com Summary: Note is not correct -Status: Open +Status: Closed Type: Documentation Problem Package: Documentation problem PHP Version: Irrelevant -Assigned To: +Assigned To: daverandom Block user comment: N Private report: N New Comment: This bug has been fixed in the documentation's XML sources. Since the online and downloadable versions of the documentation need some time to get updated, we would like to ask you to be a bit patient. Thank you for the report, and for helping us make our documentation better. Reworded note text slightly to phrase as a recommendation instead of mandatory. The protocol spec is open-ended on this point (the quoted paragraph does not specify that they *will* be permanent either) so it still makes sense to recommend that expunge be called in the same session. Previous Comments: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ [2013-10-23 09:13:08] daverandom@php.net Automatic comment from SVN on behalf of daverandom Revision: http://svn.php.net/viewvc/?view=revision&revision=331926 Log: Change imap_expunge mandate to recommendation, per bug #64791 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ [2013-05-08 14:12:34] nic at onlight dot com Description: ------------ --- From manual page: http://www.php.net/function.imap-delete#refsect1-function.imap-delete-notes --- This note: "Note: IMAP mailboxes do not have their message flags saved between connections, so imap_expunge() must be called during the same connection in order for messages marked for deletion to actually be purged." is patently incorrect. RFC2060 clearly states: "A flag may be permanent or session-only on a per-flag basis. Permanent flags are those which the client can add or remove from the message flags permanently; that is, subsequent sessions will see any change in permanent flags. Changes to session flags are valid only in that session." Only in rare cases are client settable flags not permanent, as when one user EXAMINEs another user's mailbox. In most use cases, flags may be treated as permanent, and if they are not, the server will return a message making this clear. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -- Edit this bug report at https://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=64791&edit=1
