The issue seems to come from that theres two <pre> tags inside the
placeholder for the examples so its:
<pre>
<div class="cdata">
<pre>
example
</pre>
</div>
</pre>
The outer pre will cause this extra whitespace. Changing this will also
fix the background color on the first <pre> tag from being different
from the one on the <div>.
