Imo the packages to be installed depend on specific use cases and requirements of the user and as
such cannot really by explained what packages are needed and why.

Also as said we do not support unofficial builds from third-parties in the manual pages.

If you have a link to the correct debian manual page(s) fell free to share them so they can be
linked, but as you said it's a maze.

Description:
------------
---
From manual page: http://www.php.net/install.unix.debian
---
The manual page says look elsewhere if there's a problem with php on a debian system because
its probably a problem with the debain configuration:

"If the PHP scripts are not parsing via the web server, then it's likely that PHP was not
added to the web server's configuration file, which on Debian may be /etc/apache2/apache2.conf
or similar. See the Debian manual for further details."

But it neglects to provide a link to the manual where this help can be found. When you go looking,
you learn that the debian manaual pages are a maze.

Telling users to go look elsewhere if php doesn't work is, moreover passing the buck.

The page also seems to discuss the installation as though the writer imagined he was addressing his
advice to people who were already experts on the topic.

It talks loosely of a need to install various php packages without saying clearly what php packages
are available, which ones need to be installed and, of the others, why you might want to install
them. A simple list would help, with links to further info.

Using the apt-cache search instruction the page suggests using to see what packages are available
produces a small list that contains none of those packages referenced in the example install
instructions.
