This bug has been fixed in the documentation's XML sources. Since the
online and downloadable versions of the documentation need some time
to get updated, we would like to ask you to be a bit patient.
Thank you for the report, and for helping us make our documentation
better.
The backslash is correct as the string is interpolated and would
otherwise output something incorrect.

which remains closed,
the new documentation text does not indicate that the complex syntax
allows accessing elements of array variables ({$arr['bar]}).
BTW, in the examples, there is still an extra backslash for the method
example:
This is the value of the var named by the return value of
\$object->getName():
