From: Operating system: PHP version: Irrelevant Package: Documentation problem Bug Type: Feature/Change Request Bug description:Improve the appearance of the manual Description: ------------ In 2007 I downloaded the "Enhanced" user manual with the user notes. It's been a fantastic resource. I keep it on a hotkey. This download disappeared from the website for a long time so I just kept using the 2007 version. Today I noticed that it's back on the website. I've downloaded it, but I feel like its visual appearance has deteriorated. Compare: Old: http://i.imgur.com/ozinF.png New: http://i.imgur.com/Am2XS.png The old style works very well. It's colorful, clear to read and nicely laid out. You can get the most important function information at a glance. It's not perfect; there are some ways its presentation could be improved, but nothing to get upset about. The new style -- well, maybe I need time to get used to it, but it seems drab by comparison, it doesn't flow as well visually, and most of all it takes up too much screen space for the same content. (That's even though in the screenshot of the new version, I've already reduced the font size from the default.) I think some thoughtful visual optimization of the manual could do wonders to make it more pleasant and more efficient. -- Edit bug report at https://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=55513&edit=1 -- Try a snapshot (PHP 5.4): https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=55513&r=trysnapshot54 Try a snapshot (PHP 5.3): https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=55513&r=trysnapshot53 Try a snapshot (trunk): https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=55513&r=trysnapshottrunk Fixed in SVN: https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=55513&r=fixed Fixed in SVN and need be documented: https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=55513&r=needdocs Fixed in release: https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=55513&r=alreadyfixed Need backtrace: https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=55513&r=needtrace Need Reproduce Script: https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=55513&r=needscript Try newer version: https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=55513&r=oldversion Not developer issue: https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=55513&r=support Expected behavior: https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=55513&r=notwrong Not enough info: https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=55513&r=notenoughinfo Submitted twice: https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=55513&r=submittedtwice register_globals: https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=55513&r=globals PHP 4 support discontinued: https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=55513&r=php4 Daylight Savings: https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=55513&r=dst IIS Stability: https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=55513&r=isapi Install GNU Sed: https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=55513&r=gnused Floating point limitations: https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=55513&r=float No Zend Extensions: https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=55513&r=nozend MySQL Configuration Error: https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=55513&r=mysqlcfg
