New Comment:
The manual page is describing the set() method available on Memcache objects.
Your quoted sentence is saying that the memcache_set() function is an available
alternative to the set() method.

Description:
------------
---
From manual page: http://www.php.net/memcache.set#refsect1-memcache.set-description
---
The final note in the description says "Also you can use memcache_set() function." This
page is for the set function, I believe that should say "Also you can use memcache_add()
function."
The same issue exists on the memcache_add page, it refers to itself rather than the set function.
