building individual sections

Hello,
What's the *best* way to test and make one manual section? 'make html'
takes awhile when testing output, for example, of var.xml. Editing
manual.xml is a pain, intuitively speaking I'd like to do this:
make html en/functions/var.xml
Can someone with more knowledge allow something similar to this? :) All
tips welcome.
