I partially agree. I agree that it's incorrect. But the correct way
should be '\\computername\share\filename' in plings, or
"\\\\computername\\share\\filename" in quotes, as you said.
I don't think the manual should read \\\\ (escaped backslashes) unless
it is writtenly-quoted, to avoid misunderstanding.

Obviously wrong - shouldn't that read:
"On windows, use //computername/share/filename or
\\\\computername\\share\\filename"
