Hi! I have an idea to speed up the doc builds, to not build very similar things more then once. Now the html and phpweb targets are built separately, though it is clear that they should only differ in their headers and footers. As the phpweb output contains more information, we can just simply build phpweb and run the files through some regexps to get the html output: - convert all links to .html istead of .php - convert headers and footers Otherwise the two formats are the same. If counted with the new XSL sheets, this would save us nearly 30 minutes per language (the regexps probably only take 2-3 minutes). Sound good!
That is possible if we would like to keep the online version and the downloadable versions very similar. I think this is the goal, as we would like the offline versions to be familiar for our users, so they can easily find the information they want to. I also wondered a long why we haven't any "corporate identity", because this is cheap marketing. But if this becomes really the goal, then you have to make several changes in the new chm's (e.g. there is not even a php-logo, and a "php.net-used" guy would never look into the violet header for a or function-name or header, etc. ;)
The question is if we are willing to sacrifice some elegancy for processing time decrease. I think it is worth it ;)Agreed in parts: I'd leave both xsl-styles, and introduce a separation in the makefile. If everything is done at once (e.g. the regular builds), it gets built as described above (over 6.600 files), and if just html is chosen, the html-style gets in charge ("just" over 3.300 files). Just my 2 cents, Thomas
